Our client in an Independent Power Producer and has grown to be one of the largest renewable energy companies in South Africa, developing some of the most innovative and largest private off-take renewable energy projects on the continent. Looking to develop 3GW (net) by 2030, through acquisitions, distribution generation and services, they’re looking for a “cream of the crop” South African CFO to spearhead the financial side of this growing business.

The cFO is to take full accountability for the formulation and execution of the Company’s business financial philosophy and policies which will support the commercial success and strategic intent of the business. The CFO will handle financial management of the business includes treasury, tax, budgeting, forecasting, management  accounting, financial accounting, financial reporting, insurance and supply chain responsibilities.

Custodian of funding and structuring solutions and capital structure optimisation (short term, corporate   and project finance and all manner of securities) of the Energy business

To structure and restructure the Energy business optimally and efficiently from a commercial and tax  perspective

The financial management of new and current investments and joint ventures.

To develop and drive / support the overall Energy risk, compliance and audit processes.

To be member of the executive team of the Energy business

15 years’ experience comprising:

  • Financial management
  • Corporate Finance and Treasury
  • Project Finance
  • Group structuring as well as transaction structuring
  • Engaging with providers of funding
  • Local and international transactions


  • The development of all policies and frameworks related to corporate finance, treasury, tax, financial accounting, financial reporting, management accounting, supply chain management and insurance
  • Allocate and monitor the utilisation of financial resources, capital and expenditure according to company objectives and budgets
  • Ensure strategic financial initiatives are integrated and aligned with the execution of company’s strategy and business plans
  • Lead provision of treasury and cash management to achieve effective and efficient management of cash flow, financing and financial planning
  • Ensure financial systems, governance, policies, standards, guidelines and procedures are in place that align with best, fit for purposes as well as:
  • statutory and regulatory compliance
  • Financial reporting
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Risk management
  • Supply chain management
  • Insurance for the Energy business
  • Preparation and presentation of annual financial statements,
  • Relationships with providers of funding
  • Establish credit lines depending on the needs to the business, both short and longer term.
  • Engage with Holding company on funding options
  • Creative sourcing of funding locally and internationally for projects and group that fit the group’s needs which may include non-recourse or project finance, currency and interest swaps, hedges, co-investments, mezzanine, preference shares, options, bonds, acquisition, LBO, or bridge financing.
  • Working closely with the various heads of the business vertical in Energy to source the most appropriate and least cost funding solutions
  • Relations with lenders both locally and internationally
  • Negotiating and concluding project finance and other debt facility arrangements with lenders
  • Monitor and reporting on compliance of project financed ventures to providers of funding
  • Management of debt covenants at group, subsidiary, and project level
  • Structure the group in a commercially efficient way considering:
  • Reserve Bank requirements
  • Project and corporate finance requirements
  • Taxation
  • Counterparty liabilities
  • Risk
  • Jurisdictions

  • Appreciates the commercial impact of own work on the organization’s total expenses and revenues
  • Consults widely for business or technical advice, probes for facts and obtains information from a wide variety of sources
  • Act as an advisor on any new investment and Joint Venture (JV) decisions
  • Lead the negotiation of financing agreements for investments and JV decisions
  • Act as Director on Board of Subsidiary Companies and/or investments as required
  • Manage the financials of all new and current investments and joint ventures
  • Report on the financial progress and performance of investments
